Flat-pack assembly and wall fixings in Oxfordshire
Short answer
A handyman or assembler builds flat-pack furniture and fixes it securely to the wall. Fix tall units, such as wardrobes and bookcases, to the wall so they cannot tip over. Oxford assemblers publish rates of £35 an hour. In a rented home, ask the landlord before you drill. This page lists Oxfordshire firms.

What the job covers
The assembler builds the item, checks that doors and drawers line up, and fixes it in place. Ask whether the price includes taking the packaging away.
A fitted wardrobe or a run of units takes longer. It may need fixing to an uneven wall or floor.
Stop tall furniture tipping
A tall unit that is not fixed to the wall can fall forward, especially if a child climbs it. Most makers supply a strap or bracket. It works only if the fixing into the wall holds.
Ask the assembler to fix every tall unit, chest of drawers and TV unit in a room that children use.
Choose the right fixing for the wall
Walls vary a lot across Oxfordshire. Newer homes often have plasterboard on studs. Older terraces in Oxford and the market towns often have solid brick or stone, or lath and plaster.
A good fixer checks the wall, finds pipes and cables, and picks a fixing that suits the wall and the weight.
Fixings in a rented home
Many tenancy agreements limit holes in walls. Ask the landlord in writing before you put up shelves or a TV bracket.

How firms price it
Oxford Man and Van publishes £35 an hour for one assembler, with a two-hour minimum. A Carterton handyman starts at £60, and £100 to £180 for a bed or wardrobe.
Send the maker and product code of each item. Then the firm can estimate the time.
Questions
Can I ask an assembler to fix a TV to the wall?
Yes, many do. Ask the fixer to check the wall and pick fixings that carry the weight of the TV and its bracket. Agree the cable route too.
Do I need my landlord’s permission to put up shelves?
Check your tenancy agreement. Many limit holes in walls. Ask in writing, and keep the reply, so there is no dispute about the deposit later.
Is it cheaper to pay per item or per hour?
It depends on how many items you have. A single small item often costs less at a fixed price. A room full of furniture can cost less by the hour. Ask for both.
